The building — a roughly 20,000‑square‑foot former Planet Fitness vacant since 2021 — is currently configured in ways staff said are well suited for Saint Vincent de Paul’s operations; staff reported ongoing coordination about locating a loading dock, likely on the building’s north side.
Alderman Bill Morgan (District 3) spoke in favor of the reuse, saying the vacant building has been the target of trespass, break‑ins and littering and that re‑occupancy by a nonprofit consignment operator would be an asset to the neighborhood. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearing.
Action: Commissioner Darius Daniels moved to approve the conditional use permit; Vice Chair Miller seconded. The commission voted in favor and forwarded the request to City Council for the March 18 agenda.
Next steps: If council approves, the applicant will complete site‑specific work (loading‑dock design, building alterations and any required inspections) as part of the permit process.
