Lake County Board accepts $15,000 Direct Relief grant for Sheriff—s search-and-rescue team

The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to accept a $15,000 grant from Direct Relief to support the county Sheriff—s Office search-and-rescue team and authorized the Sheriff or his designee to sign grant documents and accept funds via ACH.
Sheriff Brian Bingham told the board the grant was a last-minute opportunity and asked for authority to sign the grant documents so the county could receive the funds. "What we're requesting is for you to accept the grant and give me the authority to sign the grant so that we can get that done," Bingham said. He said the county would return next week with a formal resolution to recognize the funds as unanticipated revenue once Direct Relief notifies the county the funds are approved.
The motion to accept the grant and authorize the Sheriff to sign the documents was made, seconded and carried 5-0. The board recorded the motion as carried without naming individual votes; the clerk announced, "Motion carries 5-0." No public comment was received on the item during the meeting.
The board directed staff to present a formal resolution next week that will add the Direct Relief funds to the county budget as unanticipated revenue and complete the grant-acceptance process.
Notes: The acceptance allows the Sheriff—s Office to receive the award and begin expenditures consistent with the grant terms; the county will formally budget the funds after the resolution is returned to the board.
