Caribou council honors high-school athletes, coaches and principal

The Caribou City Council recognized student athletes, coaches and a school principal at its March 10 meeting, presenting certificates and staging photo opportunities for members of Caribou High School’s wrestling and girls basketball teams and honoring Principal Jamie Selfridge.
The council said the awards highlight the role of local recreation and school programs in developing teamwork and civic values. Council remarks singled out Grace Jean, the 2025 Maine State girls wrestling champion, and the Caribou Vikings girls basketball team, which won the Class B state championship. Coach Kayla Brown was named Co-Coach of the Year by the Big East conference, and multiple players received all-conference honors.
Principal Jamie Selfridge was also recognized after being named Maine principal of the year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals; the council noted the award followed an application, interview and school visit and said Selfridge has led Caribou High School since 2022.
Council members thanked city departments and volunteers for supporting championship events and parades and noted youth programs that feed into high-school athletics, including the city parks-and-recreation offerings. The presentations included a photo session and brief remarks from coaches and honorees.
Councilors said they plan to host the boys’ teams at a future meeting to provide similar recognition.
