Board approves design and early procurement for roofs and South Addition; authorization includes ~$6 million early work

Operations Director Mr. Stark described a program of roof assessments and repairs driven by earlier limited warranties and wet insulation issues. The district retained May's Consulting to assess roofs and prepare bid documents; the board approved an amendment to that contract to design and RFP roof work that cannot wait until the larger 2026 bid cycle. Mr. Stark said two Kauffman High School roofs were identified as needing urgent replacement because they include skylights and window connections that require immediate engineering and replacement.
The board also approved the first guaranteed maximum price (GMP) related to the South Addition project with Robertson Construction. Mr. Stark said GMP No. 1 covers primarily site work and early procurement of long-lead items such as HVAC equipment and electrical distribution panels; he estimated the early procurement/GMP package at approximately $6,000,000, subject to city permits and schedule. If permits proceed on schedule, the district expects to break ground in April and to manage subsequent GMPs as the project progresses.
Finally, the board approved design and public-bid work to replace three internal scoreboards (one at each high school). Mr. Stark said the existing scoreboards are more than a decade old; replacing all three this calendar year will simplify maintenance and solve software and parts issues.
Board action: The superintendent recommended approval of items 11a through 11d (roof assessments/RFP design amendments, GMP No. 1 for South Addition early packages, and scoreboard work). The board approved the package by a 5-0 vote.
