Council finalizes liaison roster and fills multiple board vacancies

Salisbury City Council on March 4 confirmed council liaison assignments for multiple boards and commissions and approved a slate of reappointments and appointments to fill vacancies.
The council named Timber Sheffield as liaison to the Centralina Council of Governments, Downtown Salisbury Inc., the Metropolitan Planning Organization and several other committees. Mayor Pro Tem Harry McLaughlin, Council Member Post, Council Member Jackson and Council Member Klutz were each assigned liaisons to specified boards, including parks, economic development and planning-related groups.
Council and staff then moved through a list of board appointments and reappointments. Among actions taken at the meeting: reappointment of select members to the Bell Tower Green Advisory Committee, Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee appointees, reappointment to Historic Preservation Commission, planning-board reappointments and several other board fills. In many cases councilors asked to delay decisions for boards where they wanted to consult further; several appointments were carried by motion and voice vote during the meeting.
Council said the reorganization followed a gap in liaison coverage after a recent council departure and the death of the mayor; the administration asked volunteers and staff liaisons for patience while the new council completed appointments.
