Public works: Bridgeport sewer backup cleared; Barnell relief sewer permitting in progress

Public Works Director Mr. Cooney told the council that crews and the county responded to a major sewer backup in the Bridgeport housing cluster; the line on Lander near Landerbrook was found to be 100% blocked and the county cleared the blockage at about 5:00 a.m. that day.
"The county did clear it about 05:00 and now we're trying to figure out if it's a broken pipe or what's going on. But it's a county issue and they were very responsive," Mr. Cooney said. He noted several basements in Bridgeport suffered backups as a result of the blockage.
On the Barnell project, Cooney said staff are adding laterals to the plans and have submitted a hydraulic study to the sewer district; he expects to submit an EPA permit application by the end of next week and anticipates a four- to six-week review period. He said relocation of a gas line and coordination with the county water department are ongoing, and that construction is planned for summer subject to permit approvals.
