Bexley council backs update to sewer study; flow monitoring contract portion approved

BEXLEY — The Bexley City Council on March 11 heard a second reading of Resolution 01‑25, a measure supporting the city’s two‑phase 2025–26 comprehensive sewer study intended to guide future sewer repairs and capital planning.
The resolution, introduced by Council member Saad, says the first phase of the study is budgeted at $500,000 and a second phase is estimated at $676,098. Saad said the study will yield higher‑quality data needed to plan improvements, reduce flooding impacts and produce an updated long‑term budget for system repairs.
Council members were told the Board of Control has already approved the flow‑monitoring portion of a consultant proposal so the city can capture spring runoff data now. Saad said capturing flow data in springtime was a motivating factor for approving that part of the proposal immediately.
City staff and council members recommended reviewing the materials included in the agenda packet and said consultant staff — Megan Meyer and Andy Bayshore — are expected to attend the third reading to answer additional technical questions.
The council did not take a final vote on the resolution at the March 11 meeting; the item remains scheduled for a later (third) reading where council said staff and consultants will be present to provide more detail.
Notes from the meeting packet attached to the agenda include a water/sewer capital fee presentation and a copy of the Board of Control request for proposals; councilors were urged to review those materials before the next reading.
