Centennial committee approves purchase of 500 commemorative coins for Mayor’s Ball

The Port Richey City Centennial Committee voted to order 500 commemorative coins to distribute at the Mayor’s Ball and to reserve extras for sale and giveaways. The committee approved the purchase by voice vote after brief discussion of price tiers and quantity.

The motion followed a review of supplier quotes showing per-coin prices falling as quantity rose: one vendor quoted about $3.25 per coin at a 500-coin run, with set-up fees and shipping adding to the total. Committee members said buying 500 would provide the planned 400 coins for the ball and leave about 100 to sell or distribute to staff and sponsors.

The committee discussed design and timing: members confirmed the coins would use the Port Richey City logo on one side and a centennial design on the reverse. A staff member said the vendor had indicated production and shipping would be quick enough to supply the event.

After the motion and a second, the chair called for a voice vote. The motion carried when members present responded ‘aye.’ Committee members said they would instruct staff to finalize the design and place the order immediately so coins arrive before the Mayor’s Ball.

Committee members also discussed selling surplus coins at the event and using sponsorship income to offset the cost. No specific per-coin resale price was adopted at the meeting.

The committee’s action completes a previously discussed line item in the centennial merchandise/trinket budget and advances production timelines for event souvenirs.
