Fresno County hears staff report on code enforcement enhancements; board to consider staffing and other recommendations

Fresno County staff told the Board of Supervisors on March 11 that the county has made enhancements to its code enforcement division and will return with a follow-up item requesting final approval of additional staffing and other recommended actions to serve residents more efficiently.

“Code enforcement is vital to the county as it promotes property values, public health and safety, and a better quality of life,” said Speaker 1 (Board of Supervisors member) during the presentation, which described steps taken so far and planned next steps. The board was told a future agenda item will include staffing requests and recommended actions; no formal vote occurred at the March 11 meeting.

A county administrative office representative said the county has worked over the last six months to create “a team of employees that are accountable, responsive, and focused on customer service,” and that the team is driven to ensure code enforcement issues are resolved quickly. That work is being presented to the board as part of the proposed follow-up package.

The presentation emphasized the reasons county officials gave for prioritizing enforcement: protecting property values, advancing public health and safety, and improving residents’ quality of life. The staff presentation and the board’s comments did not specify dollar amounts, exact headcount requests, or a proposed implementation timeline; those details were described as part of the forthcoming follow-up item.
