Columbia Borough Council on March 11 approved two community event requests expected to draw residents to the riverfront.
Susquehanna National Heritage Association (in partnership with Sod Salvage and the Columbia Shade Tree Commission) received approval to host Go Green Columbia at Columbia River Park on Friday, April 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Council noted event details and vendor layout and required organizers to submit certificates of insurance prior to the event.
Council also approved the Columbia United Veterans Organization’s request to hold its annual Memorial Day parade on Sunday, May 25 at 1 p.m. The motion was contingent on required insurance and PennDOT approvals for the traditional parade route. Staff noted estimated public-works and police costs for the event in the meeting packet.
Councilors and staff said they would coordinate parking, vendor placement and temporary traffic control to minimize impacts to boat‑trailer parking and adjacent uses.
Why it matters: Both approvals authorize public events that the borough says support community engagement, environmental awareness and veteran commemoration while the borough manages public‑safety and logistical requirements.
