North Platte Public Schools officials told the Committee of the Whole on Feb. 27 that the district hired seven certificated educators in February and currently lists six open positions.
Human-resources staff said resignations are down this year and hiring activity increased ahead of the March 15 staffing stability date. Presenters said the district continues a $2,500 hiring bonus paid after three years of service for hard-to-fill positions, and that they are actively recruiting through college visits, including a planned trip to the University of Wyoming.
Officials said some openings are expected to be filled readily (elementary and middle-school vacancies), while others may require alternate staffing strategies. The district identified adaptive physical education as one role it expects to have difficulty filling and described contingency planning to serve students with adaptive PE needs through adjusted individualized-education-program language and existing staff supports. Special-education staffing remains an active recruitment priority; HR said an offer is outstanding to a candidate who may finalize the hire after a second visit to town.
Presenters said the applicant pool overall is healthier than in prior years and praised recently hired candidates; they said hiring incentives and expanded recruiting are a factor.
No formal board action was taken on staffing at the meeting; staff said they will return with updates as hires are finalized.
