School staff and students recognized for quick response during bus medical emergency

The Humboldt County School District Board of Trustees recognized three district staff members and several students on Feb. 10 for their response to a medical emergency on a school bus.
Superintendent Dave Ebert described video of the Feb. incident and commended the employees — identified in the meeting as Carmen, Anthony and Missy — for quick thinking, calling 911, supporting the student’s head and managing other riders while first responders were en route. Ebert said first responders took about eight minutes to arrive because the bus was “so far out in Grass Valley,” and praised the calm, “professional” conduct of staff and students on the bus. The superintendent said the student “turned out okay” after the incident.
The board thanked the employees and students and acknowledged the district would celebrate them during a district celebration event.
