Castleberry Elementary students, teachers and staff tout campus programs in board meeting presentation

The presentations highlighted peer educators who provide in-class support, cafeteria staff who serve meals the campus described as helping students stay focused, and substitute teachers who the campus honored with a November event. Students and staff also described the Purposeful People character program, which they said teaches traits such as respect, responsibility and perseverance and factors into student recognition like the student-of-the-month awards.
“Castleberry has had such a major impact on my teaching journey,” said Ms. Bittner, a teacher at Castleberry Elementary, who described the campus culture and staff support that prompted her to remain in the classroom after a difficult year.
School speakers repeatedly framed success as a team effort involving teachers, paraprofessionals, office staff and families. Board President Tolliver and Superintendent Smith Faulkner were asked to recognize campus communities and student performers during the presentation.
Administrators noted events intended to build community: the campus said it gave substitute teachers a special dinner in November and distributed campus “CE” swag as appreciation. Students also read a campus pledge aloud and performed short presentations about how staff and families help them learn.
The board’s recognition segment closed with campus leaders inviting parents, educators and substitutes in the audience to stand and be recognized.
