Town staff provided an extensive status update on ongoing and proposed roadway, sidewalk and signal projects across Smyrna during the council meeting.
Charles (engineering) summarized active work and near-term timelines: Jenny Lane extension (Wolverine Drive to Potomac Place) is at substantial completion with street lights to be energized this month; Spring Hill Drive extension to Rocky Fork Schools is substantially complete with final paving scheduled for June 2026 to avoid builder damage to the top surface; Rock Springs sidewalk and bridge work is complete and awaiting sidewalk connections.
The Washington Street/CSX crossing project is underway; staff said coordination with CSX will require closing the rail crossing for an estimated ~20 days to allow certain work and to speed construction, while keeping Front Street open. The project includes a roundabout with vehicle‑rated brick pavers in the center and stormwater and traffic-calming elements.
Other projects discussed included: Enon Springs Road improvements (contract approved at the meeting, ADA sidewalk upgrades, paving to Ridley Street with June 30 substantial completion), Jefferson Pike at Nissan/Sam Ridley right‑turn-lane work (contract bid, under construction), Sam Ridley/Old Nashville Highway intersection improvements (double left-turn lanes and drainage upgrades; TDOT grant funds secured) and Lowry Street Phase 2 (sidewalks and decorative street lights, coordination on access with TDOT). Staff also discussed larger corridor work on Weekley Lane tied to military and county projects, Cooks Lane improvements associated with new development, and continued ITS (intelligent traffic systems) installation for about 50 of the town’s 55 signals (burn-in expected by mid‑June). The presentation noted a mix of local funding and competitive grants (including TDOT grants) and several projects are in right‑of‑way or permitting stages.
