The Town Council approved a revised classification and compensation plan for town employees and a package of mid‑year budget amendments for fiscal year 2025.
Dave (town manager) said the pay study compared Smyrna’s internal pay scales to the local market rather than the entire state and presented recommendations at a prior workshop. If the council approved the plan, he said it would take effect retroactively to include the current pay period. "Each employee will be sent a letter from HR with the exact impact that it has for each employee individually," he said, and the town will hold an all‑staff hybrid meeting to explain changes.
Rex (finance) presented proposed mid‑year budget amendments, saying the changes were primarily to implement the pay plan and to cover items that had been underbudgeted or that arrived in FY25 after being budgeted in FY24 (examples: fire truck, portable radios, stormwater dump truck, replacement vehicles and major thoroughfare planning items). The council voted to approve the compensation plan and the mid‑year amendments during the meeting. The compensation changes were to be effective retroactively to the current pay period; the manager scheduled a staff meeting the following day and HR notifications to employees.
