Weber County RAMP board recommends just over $7 million in grants; county approves award list

The recommendation — presented in the county commission meeting March 11 — asked the commission to approve the list of awards as submitted by the RAMP board. Burns said the 15-member volunteer board depended on county staff, which he called the “grama moms,” to process hundreds of hours of work and keep the review on schedule.
Burns described how the pool of funds was allocated: about $2.3 million went to major grant applications, leaving the remainder for parks, recreation, arts and museum projects across the county. After funding the submitted applications, Burns said the board had $669,000 remaining in parks and recreation; the board transferred $370,000 of that to Arts and Museums and moved $299,000 to major grants to fulfill additional requests. A remaining $5,000 was slated for the EZ grant category.
Commissioners praised the volunteer board’s time and care. Commissioner Jim Harvey said he appreciated the effort and told Burns the commission was comfortable approving the recommendations because of the board’s thorough review. Chair Sharon Bolanos echoed thanks to volunteers and county staff.
Following Burns’s presentation, a commissioner moved to approve the RAMP awards as presented. The motion passed with three ayes; the transcript records Commissioner Gage Froer, Commissioner Jim Harvey and Chair Sharon Bolanos voting in favor.
Clarifying details provided during the presentation and confirmed in the packet: the RAMP program’s total recommended awards for 2025 were $7,068,000; transfers from parks to other categories were $370,000 to Arts & Museums and $299,000 to Majors; $5,000 remained for EZ grants. Burns emphasized the local visibility of funded projects, noting numerous GRAMA/RAMP signs around the county.
The approvals allow staff to notify grantees and begin contracting and project coordination. Burns and commissioners noted the projects are expected to move into implementation over the coming months.
