A committee of the Allentown City Council voted to send Bill 13 to the regular council to increase the equipment fund budget by $150,000 so the traffic department can purchase a heavy‑duty bucket truck, meeting remarks show.
The money represents part of an LSA grant awarded to the city, and the grant will fully reimburse the city after the truck is purchased. "This hundred and $50,000 is part of the LSA grant that we received to purchase a heavy duty bucket truck for our traffic department," said Mister Shahada, staff member. "This bucket truck is a good addition to the fleet, and, it'll give us the ability to lift, heavier traffic poles in upwards 1 ton which would be 2,000 pounds. The current bucket trucks we have in our fleet are only capable of lifting up to 600 pounds, so we are fortunate that we received this grant and it would be a great addition to our fleet."
Committee members confirmed the city must purchase the truck first and that the grant reimburses the cost thereafter. One committee member asked whether the city has the funds available to advance the purchase; Shahada replied the city "will get it right back." The committee had no public comments on the item and moved the bill to the full council for consideration; a motion to send the bill passed by voice vote and the chair said, "This will go to regular council, and then we'll end this meeting."
