Council delays vote on Mobile Arena intergovernmental agreement while county talks continue

The Mobile City Council reviewed a proposed intergovernmental agreement with the Mobile County Commission to provide funding support for the planned Mobile Arena and agreed to hold the resolution while county discussions continue.

Council members and city staff said the city’s financing plan can proceed without county participation, but county support would reduce the city's upfront commitment. "Obviously, we want their partnership. That's the most important thing," Scott, an administration staff member, said, while also saying the city’s cash stack would work without county dollars.

Council members discussed timing and amounts being considered by the county.
