Commission to recruit student commissioners to broaden youth input

The commission asked staff to post the openings online and to notify local high school contacts; commissioners Laura Greenlee Karp and staff said they will coordinate candidate outreach and interviews.
The commission said the student positions would follow the same appointment path as other commission appointees: the commission would review applications and interview candidates, make recommendations, and forward appointments to city council for final approval. Commissioners noted the positions are intended as learning and advisory roles (the arts commission’s student member is nonvoting), providing resume-building and civic experience for high-school students.
Staff said they will circulate the draft posting to commissioners for promotion and will reach out to high-school contacts to publicize the openings.
