Albert Lea council adopts consent agenda, appoints Heritage Preservation Commission member and approves large claims

The Albert Lea City Council approved its consent agenda on March 10, 2025, adopting multiple resolutions and an appointment and approving a set of claims over $25,000.

Items in the consent agenda included resolutions authorizing the City of Albert Lea to enter into fire protection service agreements with Albert Lea Township and with Pickerel Lake Township; resolutions approving plans and ordering bids for the 2025 neighborhood improvement project (job 2501) and the 2025 State Aid Street overlay project (job 2502); a resolution designating no parking on the west side of Garfield Avenue from Fairlane Terrace to Ridgeway Drive (job 2502); a resolution approving plans and ordering bids for the Eleventh Street reconstruction project (job 2503); and a resolution authorizing an agreement with Houston County regarding Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement non‑primary entitlement funds for the Albert Lea Municipal Airport. The consent agenda also included the appointment of Jennifer Levison to the Heritage Preservation Commission.

Councilors approved the consent agenda on a motion by Councillor Baker, seconded by Councillor Anderson. The council carried the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition.

Separately under claims, the council approved a list of payments and noted several individual claims over $25,000 as required for presentation. The larger claims announced by the city manager included $30,467.07 to HomeServe USA Corp. for water and sewer protection plan services; $90,687.41 to Inbuilt LLC for the recreational facility project; $133,634.54 to Inbuilt LLC for the arena project; $176,113.00 to McQueen Equipment for a Titan Olympic trailer‑mounted leaf vac for the street department; and $209,867.50 to Southeast Service Co‑op for health insurance. The approval of claims was moved by Councillor Baker and seconded by Councillor Christiansen and carried by voice vote.

All items on the consent agenda and the claims presentation were recorded as approved; no separate discussion was requested on those items at the meeting.
