District human-resources staff updated the board on recruiting and staffing while noting continuing challenges filling special-education positions.
Presenters said certified openings remain for SPED teachers across elementary, middle and high school levels and that a Spanish teacher who had agreed to a high-school position subsequently backed out. The district said elementary art and music positions were recently filled and the candidate pool for the new high-school principalship was deep; the new principal will visit campus the week of March 17 for an informal meet-and-greet for staff.
HR staff described active recruitment strategies: attendance at career fairs (including out-of-state events), advertising in targeted outlets (Teaching Nebraska, Omaha World-Herald for principal searches, NCSA listings), use of Indeed and partnerships with teacher-preparation programs and student-teacher pipelines. Staff reported improved applicant pools and successful hires in some difficult positions and said additional recruitment and retention steps include highlighting renovated buildings and planned base-pay increases.
Classified vacancies and custodial shift changes were noted; staff encouraged the board to share the district website’s jobs page for candidate referrals. Board members asked about paraeducator and special-education staffing; HR staff said those para positions are often categorized as special-education classroom support and that continued recruitment remains a priority.
