Board approves Sey­mour roof bid; consent agenda passed

The Ralston Public Schools Board approved a contract for roof reconditioning at Seymour Elementary and passed the consent agenda during the meeting.

Motion and vote on Seymour roof: The board voted to approve White Castle Roofing LLC’s bid of $196,160 for reconditioning the roof at Seymour Elementary. The board was presented with multiple bids and staff recommended White Castle as a responsible bidder. The contract price does not include potential insulation replacement should crews find water-damaged insulation once the roofing work begins; the bid included a per-square-foot price for insulation tear-out and replacement if required.

Motion and vote on consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from the Feb. 24, 2025 meeting, the February financial report and February bills totaling $581,108.96 for the general fund and $1,235,399.50 for the special building fund.

Votes at the meeting were recorded aloud for each motion. For the consent agenda the roll call recorded “Missus Richards: Aye; Missus Hutt: Aye; Missus Murney: Aye; Missus Kumar: Aye; Missus Gulli: Aye,” and the chair announced the motion passed. On the Seymour roofing bid the roll call recorded “Missus Richards: Aye; Missus Krauss: Aye; Missus Willie: Aye; Missus Bridal: Aye,” and the chair announced the motion passed.

Board members and staff noted the roofing scope is a targeted reconditioning rather than a full replacement; staff said infrared testing indicated limited likely insulation issues but cautioned they will not know the full condition until crews open roofing sections. Staff also said the contractor will coordinate work with planned interior painting and other summer projects to minimize disruption.
