Cheshire Planning and Zoning Commission elects Kirch chairman, Natale vice chairman and Mercado secretary

At the meeting the Planning and Zoning Commission voted to add the election of officers to the meeting agenda and then elected three officers by a single motion. Commissioner Bowman moved to add the election to the regular agenda; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Riccato and carried. Commissioner Bowman then moved a single slate: Mr. Kirch for chairman, Mr. Natale for vice chairman and Mr. Mercado for secretary; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Dawson, nominations were closed, and the slate was approved 7–0.
During discussion Commissioners noted uncertainty about whether the commission is required to hold annual officer elections under its bylaws. One commissioner said he would check the bylaws and report at the next meeting; the group also referenced the Town Charter and practice among other elected bodies as points of comparison. The commission scheduled no additional action on bylaws at that meeting but said it would revisit the question if the bylaws indicate an annual requirement.
The commission also announced it will meet in executive session at the next meeting for attorney strategy; the executive session will not be televised and will be held in an alternate room (Room 207), with only staff and commissioners present for legal strategy discussions.
