Commissioners direct staff to seek comprehensive road-engineering study and add Clay Brown Road to striping list

The Hart County Board of Commissioners voted March 11 to put out a request for proposals for a comprehensive road-engineering study encompassing pavement condition assessment, traffic engineering for intersections, public workshops, long-range planning and modeling.
Commissioner Brown, who introduced the motion, said the study would “give us a step-by-step” program to prioritize paving and safety investments and align county work with state grant opportunities. Brown described expected benefits including data-driven prioritization, preventive-maintenance cost savings and safety improvements.
The board discussed cost ranges; Brown and other commissioners noted proposals can range from tens of thousands for limited pavement assessments to five- or six-figure bids for comprehensive safety and planning work. Commissioner Brown moved to solicit bids for a full comprehensive transportation and safety plan; later in the discussion he amended the motion to request that the bid be posted and received within 60 days. The board approved the motion and the 60-day timeline.
Separately, the board added Clay Brown Road to the county striping list after a short discussion about nighttime visibility and expected growth in traffic; that motion also passed unanimously.
Commissioners instructed staff to prepare an RFP template and to schedule a timeline for review; they noted that procurement rules and any required state procurement steps would affect final schedules.
