County to pursue funded signal changes at 346 Campus Parkway; sheriff outlines crash hotspots and SR 37 update announced

Hamilton County highway staff told commissioners on March 10 that the county received funding to modify signals and intersections at 346 Campus Parkway and that the funded project will allow additional turning movements, including permissive left turns.

At the meeting a highway presenter said the county’s reply to a recent request regarding 346 Campus Parkway states that no immediate improvements will be made at this time because funding was only recently received and the project is forthcoming. The board approved the correspondence acknowledging the funding and forthcoming project.

Sheriff's office staff addressed recent reports about crash locations within county patrol areas, saying the top crash locations for county‑patrolled roads are concentrated in a handful of spots (the presenter cited 146 and other county roads). The sheriff said some upticks are associated with construction zones and driver behavior such as illegal turns and distracted driving, and that enforcement has been increased in some areas. “We patrol that and we've had some increased enforcement efforts,” the sheriff said in response to commissioner questions.

County staff also noted that the State Road 37 Improvements Project has recently kicked off; the MDOT local project team is available to meet with interested parties via the project website at www.sr37improvements.com.

The commission approved an item described as “traffic study correspondence” and the presenters said the funding and project scheduling will determine when physical changes are implemented.
