Morton Grove board approves $1.63 million architectural contract for combined village hall and police station

The Morton Grove Village Board on March 11 approved Resolution 25.12, authorizing an agreement with FGM Architects Inc. to provide architectural services for a combined Village Hall and police station at 6201 Dempster Street, the site of a former Fifth Third Bank.
Village Administrator (name not provided) said the proposal covers work from initial design through construction and said staff expects the architectural services to extend “through the next 2 or 3 years as we build the building.” The village-estimated cost for the architectural contract and selected options is $1,625,590.
The proposal presented to the board would renovate about 30,000 square feet of the existing structure and add roughly 14,000 square feet for police facilities, while addressing the parking area, village officials said. The administrator described the work as intended to create a Village Hall–Police Department complex that the village can use for the next four decades.
Trustee Thill moved to approve the resolution; Trustee Travis seconded. The board conducted a roll-call vote and the resolution passed 6–0 (aye votes recorded for Trustees Khan, Mink, Shiba, Phil, Travis and Witko).
No additional financing details or construction schedules were included in the presentation; the administrator said staff will return to the board with further information as the design progresses.
The village purchased the property at 6201 Dempster Street late last year and has previously discussed converting the bank building into a municipal complex. The approved agreement covers the architectural design and related services needed to move the project into detailed planning and permitting phases.
