Board approves $243,000 supplemental appropriation for sheriff’s office line items

The Board of Supervisors approved a request March 11 to appropriate funds for several sheriff’s office line items that staff said were inadvertently cut during earlier budget calculations and that now exceed current year estimates.
County staff explained the sheriff’s office requested increases for part‑time court staffing, contractual services and vehicle repairs; staff said a budgeting entry error in the county’s OpenGov system caused some requested contractual lines to be reduced and one line omitted from the FY25 appropriation. The approved supplemental restored funds for vehicle repairs and contractual services and covered increased telecommunication charges tied to a NextGen Motorola dispatch upgrade.
Supervisors voted to approve the requested appropriation so the sheriff’s office will have funds available for repairs, contracted service and dispatch telephony during FY25 and to avoid mid‑year shortfalls. The board did not change policy or staffing levels in the March 11 vote.
