APD reports declines across categories but flags auto theft spike; five arrested in Zone 6 pursuit

Deputy Chief Kelly Collier of the Atlanta Police Department told the Public Safety committee that crime is down year‑to‑date across most categories but that auto theft is the exception for recent weekly figures.
Collier said the department is down "in every category with the exception of motor vehicle theft" but that the city is down 44% year‑to‑date in auto theft; she said the department was up 26% for the week. Collier described a multi‑officer response in Zone 6 in which officers followed a suspect vehicle onto I‑20, the ACE (auto crimes enforcement) unit terminated the pursuit with a PIT maneuver, and five people were arrested. Collier said five firearms and multiple credit and debit cards were recovered and that there were no injuries.
She also cited the 911 center’s average answer time of 6 seconds as an operational highlight, and reported that detectives identified the person who damaged several tents near the MLK center and that warrants have been issued.
Councilmembers asked whether auto theft incidents were clustered in particular neighborhoods; Collier said the recent uptick appeared to be a one‑off week with no clear geographic cluster. The vice chair and others congratulated Collier on her appointment and asked about her career background.
No committee action was taken on the presentation; members thanked APD for the arrests and for identifying the tent‑vandal suspect.
