The Shoreline School District Board of Directors on Thursday adopted Resolution 2025-2, revising the district’s 2024–25 Capital Projects Fund budget and authorizing additional appropriations to allow bond-funded facility projects to proceed.
Assistant Superintendent Angela von Essen told the board the extension provides spending authority for “additional and new revenues and related expenditures” in the capital projects fund and is intended to cover identified tentative plan projects funded by existing bond funds. She said the budget extension process requires a public hearing and review by the Educational Service District (ESD) and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
Von Essen summarized the numbers included in the extension paperwork, noting an original appropriation figure of about $8.7 million and additional requested authority “around $10.2 million,” for a new total appropriation near $18.9 million. At the public meeting Superintendent Reyes read the resolution recommendation as an increase of $10,237,270 for the 2024–25 capital projects fund period of Sept. 1, 2024, through Aug. 31, 2025.
Board members asked whether expanding projects would create unbudgeted staff demands. Von Essen said contingency capacity was included in the line items to cover unexpected costs and time-related expenditures. The board opened a public hearing required under state law (RCW 28A.505.170); no members of the public spoke in person or online, and the hearing was closed.
Director Williams moved to adopt the resolution; Director Cohen seconded. The motion carried unanimously on a voice vote. The board directed staff to submit the approved resolution and the budget status report to the ESD for forwarding to OSPI, as required.
The approved extension gives the district formal spending authority to continue planned bond-funded capital work through the remainder of the 2024–25 fiscal year.
