Verona council confirms appointments, approves stewardship resolution, floodplain ordinance, payments and two property agreements

The Verona Common Council on Monday, March 11, 2025, confirmed multiple appointments, approved a stewardship resolution and a floodplain ordinance update, authorized payment of city bills and approved two property-related agreements.
The council confirmed Byron Brown to the Police and Fire Commission and appointed Preston Baker, Keith Kemp and William Taylor to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The council also approved resolution 25-004 supporting reauthorization and funding for the Knowles Nelson Stewardship Program, which staff said has funded projects benefiting Verona, including $1,510,000 to preserve a trail corridor, $192,526 for Firemen’s Park improvements and $70,872 for a shelter at Hometown Junction Park.
Finance committee members moved to pay city bills totaling $695,577.83; alderpersons noted several large invoices including a $268,679 payment to AECOM for engineering services and $251,830 to Road Brothers for the North Booster Station water-utility project.
The council adopted ordinance 25-1060, repealing and recreating Title 13, Chapter 3 of the municipal code relating to the city’s floodplain zoning at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ request; staff said the change updates language to be consistent with state model ordinance language and does not change floodplain maps.
The council approved a temporary property-use agreement with MP Systems Inc. to store vehicles and equipment on approximately 5 acres at a former pit site east of Northern Lights Road for a Middleton utility project. The rent is $3,250 per month from July 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2025; staff said the contract requires the site be returned in its original condition and includes environmental provisions.
The council also approved an aquatic-management agreement allowing Lake and Pond Solutions LLC to perform weed control and maintain aerators at the Gateway Estates stormwater pond; approval was contingent on verification that the pesticides and weed-control methods conform with city guidelines and DNR oversight.
Other routine business included swearing-in of new police officers and brief engineering and committee reports. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
