Board adopts updates to course descriptions, CTE options and diploma tracks

The Chino Valley Unified School District Governing Board approved revised course descriptions and curriculum sequencing at its March meeting. Staff said revisions remove outdated items, add Career and Technical Education (CTE) options and clarify mathematics and English sequencing for special-education students and for dual-enrollment prerequisites.
Notable changes included removing an on-campus cybersecurity option that had been offered in partnership with CTED; adding water management and equine courses to the agricultural sequence with certificates available through Yavapai College; and creating an algebra-a/algebra-b sequence that breaks Algebra I into two yearlong courses for students needing paced instruction. Staff also updated placement scores required for AJEC (the district’s dual-enrollment program) and removed Honors Academy prerequisites for incoming cohorts while introducing an honors diploma students can pursue by selecting honors courses.
Curriculum staff said they made leadership-class updates after parental feedback and restructured social-studies and English course prerequisites to reflect the removal of Honors Academy and the new diploma structure. The board approved the course-description updates by voice vote.
