Parent urges clearer communication and safety fixes for student transportation

Tiffany Deroscher, a parent of two Chino Valley Unified School District students, told the governing board at its March meeting that parents are withdrawing students from district transportation and moving children to online or homeschool learning because of safety and communication failures.

Deroscher listed three main concerns: student safety on buses, inadequate communication when incidents occur, and a need for stronger reporting and accountability. She told the board that allegations of substance use involving a bus driver and other incidents had led some families to stop using district transportation.

Deroscher pressed the board to ensure parents receive direct contact about route changes and any incidents affecting their children rather than relying on voicemail. She asked for clearer processes so that school and transportation staff can account for a student’s whereabouts while on the bus and suggested formal reporting forms for safety issues such as stop-sign violations.

Board members acknowledged the concern and said staff would follow up and invited Deroscher to share contact information for further investigation. The board did not take formal action during the public-comment item; the chair said staff would look into the matters raised and encouraged the speaker to contact district staff for follow-up.
