Ethan Calhoun of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission told the commission the subject property is surrounded by agricultural land and the requested GA district would reflect the site’s existing use. “What we have is essentially agricultural land,” Calhoun said, adding that a sawmill on adjacent property would remain permitted under GA and the change would reduce a spot‑zoning condition.
Petitioner Dan Klein spoke briefly and said the request simply brings the map into alignment with how the property is used. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the public hearing.
The commission voted to approve the rezoning following staff recommendation. The approval is a recommendation to the local elected officials (Board of Commissioners and Dalton City Council where applicable) as part of the county’s land‑use review process.
The item had been presented as a routine map correction and staff said the future‑development map shows the area as rural residential, making GA an appropriate district for the property. No conditions or additional restrictions were recorded in the hearing.
