The committee approved minutes from the Feb. 19, 2025 meeting on a motion from Senator Foreman, seconded by Senator Rekke. The committee also approved printing of RS 32561 (a cleanup to remove an unused weather-modification taxing-district provision) on a motion from Senator Foreman, seconded by Senator Keiser. RS 32561 was described by sponsor Senator Tammy Nichols as a cleanup of an unused statutory provision that was created in the 1970s and never activated; witnesses and county officials said no taxes were ever levied under that district.
Senator Dave Lent presented an RS related to education rules. Senators voted to print RS 32586C1 on a motion from Senator Ricks and a second from Senator Shippey. Senator Lent told the committee the board of education had requested changes to several content standards; the committee accepted revisions to five content standards, rejected a proposed change to the English language-arts rule that would have removed the communications (speech) credit in favor of a digital-technology credit at one grade level, and returned three other dockets to the State Board for further work.
Separately, the committee moved House Bill 185 to the fourteenth order for amendment (technical correction) and advanced House Bills 47 and 159 as committee recommendations to the Senate floor (see individual items). Votes on routine items were taken by voice; the committee recorded a single named dissent (Senator Wintrow) on the HB47 recommendation.
