The Robertson County Board of Education approved a resolution on March 10 that affirms the district's intention to participate in Section 4 of the Education Freedom Act of 2025 and accept a state-authorized $2,000 bonus for employees the state designates as teachers.
Dr. Weeks presented the resolution and read its principal language to the board: "Robertson County Board of Education affirms its intention to participate in Section 4 of the Education Freedom Act of 2025 relative to bonuses for teachers." She told the board the Tennessee School Boards Association had advised that the resolution met legal requirements for accepting the payments.
Dr. Weeks said the district understands the state plans to include payroll taxes and other benefits related to the bonus amount in the total payment, and that the earliest the money could be available is July, but there is no guarantee of that timing. The board approved the resolution on a 6-0 voice vote after a motion from Mr. Rice and a second from Ms. White.
The board did not adopt details about employee eligibility beyond what the state will identify; Dr. Weeks said staff will work out the payment details later if and when state funds are disbursed.
