Alexander County Schools honors state Beta Club winners; one student earns statewide scholarship

The Alexander County Schools Board of Education opened its March 10 meeting with honors and recognitions for students who placed at the state Beta Club convention.
Dr. Danita Dalrevis introduced the presentation and asked Beta Club sponsor Ms. Reed to bring students forward. The board and superintendent recognized more than a dozen students across individual and group competitions. Highlights announced from the podium included Peyton Fox (first place, black-and-white photography), Reagan Pierce (fourth place, French, ninth grade), Isaac Bowen (third place, French, 11th grade), Bryant Fox (third place, Health and PE, ninth grade), Beau Lewis (champion, musicology, as part of a group), and a musicology champion group of Taylor Brown, Abby Haas, Beau Lewis and Aaron McClain.
Dr. Dalrevis and Ms. Reed listed additional placements across language arts, marketing and communications, math, mixed media, instrumental performance, poetry, pottery and more. In a featured recognition, the board acknowledged Griffin Duncan as one of two students statewide to receive the $2,000 Hannah Lightner College scholarship from the state Beta Club; Dr. Dalrevis said she confirmed the award earlier that day. Superintendent Dr. Griffin was recorded shaking hands with students as they received plaques.
The board thanked teachers, sponsors and families for supporting the students. After group photos and additional informal remarks, the honors and recognitions portion of the meeting concluded and family members were dismissed for the business portion of the agenda.
