Quincy licensing board approves permits for 5K, YMCA fundraiser, restaurant licenses, name change and license pledge

Quincy, Massachusetts — The City of Quincy Board of License Commissioners on March 11 unanimously approved five licensing items, including a special-use permit for Interfaith Social Services’ annual Stop the Stigma 5K and a one-day liquor license for the South Shore YMCA’s Taste of the South Shore fundraiser.

The approvals came during the board’s 4 p.m. meeting at City Hall. Chair Crispope opened the meeting and confirmed a full quorum before the board took up each agenda item.

Interfaith Social Services sought a special-use permit for its Stop the Stigma 5K on Saturday, April 26. The event is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. with the start and finish at 440 East Fawnham Street at the Kennedy Center. An Interfaith Social Services representative told the board this is the organization’s “51st annual 5Ks” and that the run “is to raise awareness for mental illness and addiction” and also serves as a fundraiser for the group’s mental‑health counseling center. The representative said the event drew about 800 participants last year and the organization expects a comparable turnout this year. The board voted to approve the special‑use permit.

The board approved a one‑day liquor license for the South Shore YMCA at 79 Coddington Street for its Taste of the South Shore on Wednesday, May 7, at 6 p.m. Nick Ben Dixon, representing the YMCA, described the event as “the South Shore YMCA signature fundraising event,” said it will be a ticketed, 21‑and‑over evening featuring about 25 vendors and said the organization anticipates about 500 participants. Dixon told the board the YMCA will close the branch to members at 3 p.m. that day, and that transportation and delivery permits and the caterer’s license are in hand.

The board granted a common victualler (common victualler) license to Carba Meze Grill LLC doing business as Carba for the premises at 195 Newport Avenue. Proposed manager Patrick Cartier described Carba as a fast‑casual Mediterranean restaurant offering grain and salad bowls, pitas and a range of proteins and toppings; he said construction has begun and the company is aiming to open later this year. The board approved the license with the applicant told to contact the office for inspection prior to opening.

Perth Hospitality LLC received approval to change its doing‑business‑as name at 20 Reservoir Road from The Fours at Furnace Brook to The Loft at Furnace Brook. Tim Colton, representing Perth Hospitality, said the new name better fits the space and views at the location and indicated an anticipated opening no later than April 1. The board approved the name change.

The board also approved a pledge of the Clambox LLC wine and malt beverage restaurant license at 789 Quincy Shore Drive to Mountain 1 Bank as part of a refinancing. Attorney Rob Fleming, who represents the applicant, was not present; the board voted on the signed application on file.

In other business the board accepted the minutes from its Feb. 25 hearing, set its next meeting for March 25 and adjourned.
