Revere Board schedules first reading of revised cell-phone policy after staff presentations

The Revere Board of Education discussed a staff presentation on a revised student cell-phone policy at its March 11 work session and scheduled a first reading for the board’s March 18 meeting.
Mr. White, a staff presenter at the session, said he has shown the same presentation to students, staff and community members and that he has led “4 sessions. 1 yeah. So you need 4 sessions total. Probably more than that, though.” He added, “I’ve always started with kind of the why, and I’m doing show you the exact same presentation I’ve shown to all of them.”
Board members asked about how many community members and groups had been consulted; White estimated about 30 people in total participated across sessions. He acknowledged disagreement within those meetings, saying, “I wanna say not everybody agrees… But people have respectfully disagreed for the most part.”
The board placed the revised cell-phone policy on the March 18 draft agenda as a first reading. No formal vote on the policy occurred at the March 11 work session.
Board members said the policy presentation will be repeated for the board and included as part of the March 18 meeting’s presentations lineup, which also lists student groups from Richfield Elementary School, Path Elementary, the middle school science club and a high-school group called Engaging With Purpose.
