Commission reviews police e-bike purchase, SRT outfitting and data discrepancies

Commissioners reviewed February police invoices and training updates on March 10 and asked staff to correct reported data errors and follow up on several equipment and fuel items.
Chairman Joe noted the purchase of an electric bicycle and said the department will bring the e-bike to the next commission meeting so members can see it in person. The chief also described outfitting a newly assigned officer for the countywide Special Response Team (SRT) and said the officer will attend a future meeting in full gear to describe training and duties.
Commissioner Ed questioned the January Wisconsin Incident-Based Reporting (WIBR) numbers, saying the offense column totals did not add up. The police chief acknowledged the discrepancy and said the city hall accounting/reporting staff is working to provide an accurate monthly report going forward.
“There are purchases for, like, one of them is a rifle,” the chief said in describing equipment purchased for an SRT team member. “We’ve been outfitting the newest member that’s gonna be on the countywide SRT team.”
Separately, chiefs and commissioners discussed propane as an alternative fuel. A chief said he had not previously been approached about problems with the propane system but would prepare a report for the commission after hearing concerns and additional information.
No formal ordinances or contracts were approved during the police report. Commissioners requested the police department and city staff: (1) bring the new e-bike and an SRT demonstration to a future meeting, (2) correct and reissue the WIBR January offense counts, and (3) supply a written report on propane system status and alternatives.
The police report portion of the meeting also included recognition of police service anniversaries and routine invoice review; those items were acknowledged but not contested.
