Oakwood board accepts $680,000 Flourish donation, approves auditorium contractors and purchasing membership

The Oakwood Schools Board of Education on March 10 accepted a $680,000 donation from the Oakwood Schools Foundation to fund Phase 2 enhancements to the Oakwood High School auditorium and approved related contracting and purchasing measures.
The donation, presented by Amy Martin on behalf of the Oakwood Schools Foundation, will support auditorium upgrades that the foundation described as including updated theatrical rigging, light-blocking shades, updated electrical systems, and an engineered sound system with wireless microphones and speakers. "We are thrilled to be presenting this check to the Oakwood Schools for Flourish Phase 2 enhancements to the Oakwood High School Auditorium," Martin said.
Why it matters: the foundation gift will underwrite planned technical upgrades that district officials said will improve rehearsal, performance and event capabilities at the junior high and high school auditorium. The board also approved procurement steps intended to streamline purchases and start design work for abatement needed before construction.
The board approved a resolution authorizing membership in the Ohio Purchasing Council (Top C), which Treasurer Miss Sauber said gives the district access to pre-bid contracts and state-term pricing to speed procurement. The board then approved a resolution authorizing an agreement with Prodigy Building Solutions LLC for the Oakwood High School Auditorium Project and a separate resolution to retain Grama as the consultant for abatement design tied to the master facilities plan Phase 2.
Board members voted in favor of each measure. The donation and the Prodigy and Grama agreements were approved by roll call votes recorded in the meeting minutes. The membership in Top C likewise passed.
The superintendent reiterated that broader facility work remains tied to a previously approved bond proposal: in January the district placed a 4.74-mill bond issue on the May 6, 2025, ballot to raise up to $40 million for facility upgrades focused on Smith and Harmon elementaries and select improvements at the junior/senior high.
The board’s actions on March 10 advance the auditorium component of that facilities plan and put the district in position to begin detailed design and procurement pending any additional approvals or funding.
