Laura Magnus, representing Action Now Initiative, told the committee the bill is intended to reduce duplicative reporting requirements; she said the department currently produces about 57 annual reports and that posting the statutorily required data on the department website would improve government efficiency. Magnus told members the department’s leadership and staff have been cooperative in providing information on the website and that the bill would avoid redundant paper reports while keeping required information publicly available.
No witnesses registered opposition; the committee discussed the bill briefly and recorded a unanimous recommendation to pass. The committee chair announced the vote as 14 ayes, 1 absent.
The bill does not change the statutory items agencies must produce; rather it clarifies that posting those items on the department website will satisfy the statutory filing obligations. Supporters characterized the measure as an efficiency and transparency improvement; the committee forwarded the bill with a due-pass recommendation.
