The committee considered a resolution to authorize completion of a PEMA designation-of-agent form that would name the mayor as the city's authorized agent to sign for financial assistance through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). Chief Kenny Smith and Melanie Chenotte presented the item on March 12.
Chief Kenny Smith said the fire department has submitted a FEMA request related to equipment and overtime costs from flooding during Tropical Storm Debbie on Aug. 9. "We put in a request for equipment that was damaged in the flooding... some dry suits, some boots... and also the salaries and overtime that was required for us to perform our duties," he said, adding the application is an attempt to mitigate costs to Williamsport residents.
Staff described the PEMA designation form as a standard administrative procedure to authorize the mayor to act on behalf of the city when applying for state or federal disaster assistance. The committee did not record a formal vote in the transcript; staff characterized the resolution as a routine formality and proceeded to the next agenda item.
