Beale Air Force Base previews June air show; Thunderbirds to headline, STEM day planned

Representatives from Beale Air Force Base briefed the City Council on Jan. 28 about a June air show that will open the base to the public for demonstrations, STEM activities and vendor participation.
“I'm Lieutenant Colonel JC Gorman, from Beale Air Force Base. I'm the airshow director,” JC Gorman told the council. He said the Thunderbirds were scheduled to headline and that the base was working to confirm military and civilian demonstration acts, including E‑2, F‑18, C‑17 and KC‑135 type aircraft and an F‑35 demonstration team. The base plans a STEM day on June 6 aimed at local school groups, followed by public air shows on June 7–8.
Gorman said the base will implement a temporary flight restriction (TFR) around Beale, extending roughly a 10‑mile radius and in the day of the show extending to the surface, and he cautioned the council about increased vehicle traffic into Lincoln from the west and southwest during show hours. “You can expect increased traffic flow…from 09:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” he said.
Amy Weaver, marketing director with the 4th Force Support Squadron, described community programming including kid zones, STEM exhibits, virtual‑reality flight demonstrations and hands‑on displays. The Beale Military Liaison Council (BMLC) will license part of the apron to local volunteers and vendors to increase community participation.
Gorman and BMLC representatives asked the city to help spread word to residents, and the base invited local businesses to apply for vendor and sponsorship opportunities. City officials said they are pursuing closer collaboration with Beale and will publicize the dates and information on local channels.
