Select Board signs off on daffodil parade notification and approves open-container waiver for Skonset picnic

The Select Board voted March 10 to sign the Massachusetts Department of Transportation event-notification form for the annual daffodil parade and to grant a waiver of Chapter 54 (the town’s open-container restriction) for an enclosed picnic area in Skonset.
Amy, licensing staff, explained the MassDOT form is required because the parade will use State Road. The waiver covers a contained area of Main Street in Skonset where the Chamber will manage a tailgate picnic; the Chamber has previously restricted consumption to the enclosed picnic footprint and prevented people from leaving the area with alcohol, she said.
Select Board member Matt moved approval for both forms; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously by roll call (ayes from Matt, Dawn, Malcolm, Tom and the chair).
The Chamber’s organizers, including Peter and Bianca, were acknowledged during the briefing; staff said the Chamber will continue to coordinate logistics and the town will enforce conditions tied to the waiver.
The approvals allow the Chamber to submit required state paperwork and to hold the enclosed picnic with an approved exception to the town’s open-container rule, subject to the conditions the licensing office applies.
