Select Board approves seasonal liquor renewals; Foggy Bottom and Berkeley Place listed as nonrenewals

The Select Board voted to approve the town’s routine seasonal liquor-license renewals on March 10, with a 4-0 vote and one abstention.
The approvals cover licenses that allow sales April 1 to Jan. 15; annual licenses were handled in November and December, licensing staff said. Amy, licensing staff, told the board that renewal is a right for licensees but that they must complete required inspections and other conditions before operating.
The board’s action also recorded two nonrenewals. Foggy Bottom Kitchen LLC (doing business as Foggy) will not move forward with a location change and will be recorded as a nonrenewal; because it occupies a quota license, that vacancy will allow the town to accept a new application and the town expects a first-come, first-served application in April. Berkeley Place Restaurant (DBA Growth 23) was also listed as a nonrenewal to update state records.
Amy noted a separate case: Nantaco has publicly said it does not plan to open in 2025 and advertised trying to sell its license. Under state law and local practice, the town gives licensees up to six months after notice to indicate plans; if the licensee does not respond, the town may hold a hearing to remove a so-called “pocket license.” Amy said the licensing office will return if Nantaco submits a notice or fails to respond.
The motion to approve renewals “as outlined” was moved by Select Board member Matt and seconded by Select Board member Malcolm. The roll call recorded Matt, Malcolm, Tom and the chair voting yes; Select Board member Dawn abstained because she said she missed most of the discussion.
The licensing office will continue processing inspections and any transfer paperwork that affects specific licenses, including current-vintage management transfers discussed later in the meeting.
