The Medina City Council Finance Committee approved a set of consent and action items during a meeting that included budget amendments, insurance renewals and infrastructure requests, then recessed into executive session to discuss land acquisition.
Committee members voted to approve ordinance/motion items listed by staff, including budget amendment request 2557, a fund advance for the airport for snow‑removal equipment (2558), a then‑and‑now payment to Centura Coop to close out prior invoices (2559), acceptance of a Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant application to offset software setup costs (2560), renewal of liability insurance for the airport and another facility (2562), providing city water to a property on Wadsworth Road outside city limits (2563), award of bids for the South Court Water Main Loop project (2564), and donation of used city PCs and cameras to Medina City Schools (2565). Most approvals passed with an emergency clause where staff requested it to meet contract or policy expiration deadlines.
The committee also approved the insurance renewals after staff said the current policy expired April 1 and that the combined two‑year crime and airport liability proposals total about $20,345. Committee members discussed whether to lock a multi‑year premium but left the renewal at the recommended two‑year option.
On the water‑service request, staff reported the property on Wadsworth Road is outside the city and that the county sanitary engineer raised no objection to supplying city water for the homeowner’s future connection. The South Court Water Main Loop bid award was tied to a schedule requested by an adjacent commercial development; staff said connecting the South Court water tower to the High Point Drive line would add redundancy and improve fire flow.
The committee authorized the donation of replaced desktop computers and cameras from city inventory to Medina City Schools; one member abstained from that vote for an appearance reason tied to employment. After finishing business the committee voted to recess into executive session to consider the purchase of property for a public purpose with the mayor and law director present; the clerk called the roll for that motion and recorded affirmative votes.
Votes at a glance: 2557 budget amendments — approved; 2558 fund advance (airport snow equipment) — approved; 2559 then‑and‑now (Centura Coop invoices) — approved with emergency clause; 2560 Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant application (software setup) — approved with emergency clause; 2562 liability insurance renewal (airport + crime) — approved with emergency clause; 2563 supply city water to property at 5784 Wadsworth Road — approved; 2564 award bids for South Court Water Main Loop (job 1181) — approved with emergency clause; 2565 donate PCs and cameras to Medina City Schools — approved with emergency clause.
The committee reconvened from the executive session and adjourned without taking any additional public action related to items discussed in executive session.
