The Andover School Committee reviewed a draft equity vision statement prepared after a district equity audit by PCG and gave staff direction to collect more feedback before finalizing.
Superintendent Dr. Parvey said the draft is a "vision for equity" intended to be a signpost describing where the district wants to go and what equity looks like locally. She told the committee the draft grew from focus groups and input from many district employees — including custodial and food service staff, principals, counselors, and curriculum council members — as well as surveys.
Committee members praised language that emphasized supporting the "whole child" beyond academics, including family access to information and resources. "I was really happy to see that because it just shows that we're embracing the whole child as a district," one committee member said.
Members asked for tighter language and for staff to explain how the equity vision will connect to the district roadmap, strategic priorities and professional development. Staff said they will present the statement to additional groups, including the Superintendent's Advisory Council and school audiences, and will solicit suggested edits. A timeline shared at the meeting asked for committee feedback by early March ahead of professional development sessions planned to kick off in April.
The committee did not vote on the draft; the meeting served as a feedback session. PCG will receive the committee’s suggested edits for integration into a revised draft for further review.
