Math Homework Hotline spotlights teacher contest, student winners and sponsors

Maggie Mixon and Canela Prado used the show to announce teacher- and student-focused prizes and to recognize sponsors that support the Math Homework Hotline.

The hosts named monthly teacher contest winners for recent months and congratulated students who called in correctly. Mixon announced a teacher winner for February, identified in the program as Miss Hite; she also said Ms. Garrison won the January contest. Hosts showed photographs from classroom visits, including one showing a student identified on air as Anish in Doctor V’s class at Williams Middle Magnet.

Prizes mentioned included t-shirts, small bags, food vouchers and a plaque from Edgems for the nightly challenge winner. Mixon read several t-shirt winners on air and the hosts thanked Mathnasium for a sponsor segment and for listing local Mathnasium centers by neighborhood.

The hosts emphasized outreach and teacher engagement: students earn points for their teachers each time they call, and Mixon described teachers who assign the on-air challenge as part of classroom practice. The segment included on-air recognition of classrooms at Lowry Elementary and other local schools and invited students to continue calling the Hotline during the month’s remaining shows.

The segment combined instruction with district outreach, using prizes and sponsor materials to encourage student participation and classroom connection. No funding amounts, contracts or formal district decisions were discussed on the program.
