The Haverhill Education Foundation told the School Committee it will postpone its planned Kids Fest for one year after fundraising fell short; organizers said they had considered the high school as an alternate venue because of parking and teen engagement, and thanked district facilities staff for support.
Representatives of the Haverhill Education Foundation told the School Committee during public comment on Feb. 27 that the nonprofit will postpone this year's Kids Fest after failing to meet fundraising goals.
Caitlin Rule, speaking for the foundation, said organizers had been advised to consider Haverhill High School as an alternative venue because of parking and bus access and because the group wants to attract more teenagers. "Traditionally, the event has been in Downtown Haverhill," she said. The foundation decided on the morning of the meeting to delay the event "for another year" to allow more time to secure resources.
Rule and Jenny Art thanked the district's facilities staff — citing Tim O'Brien and others — for responsiveness during planning and said they hope to return in the fall to discuss specifics for a future event.
