The Board of Supervisors voted to waive the usual petition step and proceed to a public hearing on a requested spelling correction for a county road currently listed as 'Rosa Brand Road' rather than the intended 'Rosa Branch Road.'
County staff said some residents want the name corrected but may not be able to collect the required signatures; the board can waive that petition step and hold a public hearing before making the change. The land-use director, Beth McDowell, confirmed the board would advertise a public hearing and allow residents to weigh in. One supervisor said the road loop has about 10 residences and that the misspelling likely occurred originally during record creation.
A motion to authorize staff to proceed with the public-hearing step without the resident petition was moved, seconded and carried on a recorded vote. The chair announced the motion carried and staff will advertise the hearing.
No final name change was adopted at the meeting; the board will consider public comment at the public hearing before any official renaming is entered in county records.
